"Living in the country"...in Houston? That's a new one on me. Texas law requires loose dogs which are not an immediate threat to life or property under "vicious dog" statutes to be seized and held for claim for at least 3 days. No animal control/shelter in Texas is permitted to shoot dogs except in ...

It's very interesting how PETA tries to spin what happened. Only when caught red-handed do they reveal that they euthanize animals regularly - something people don't know when they hand animals over and give them donations. I wonder what their kill rate is compared to the run-down, underfunded shelt...

Silverbullet, But you don't understand that a breathing problem wouldn;t happen in the first place in hunting stock! A hound that couldn't breathe would cull itself out and that bad trait wouldn't have the chance to be passed on. How could a field hound cull itself out if it wouldn't happen in the f...

HatterasBob, I have no problem with the complaint. I've agreed with/supported many complainers in the past. But I've also seen the other side where there are dissatisfied customers who are bad-mouthing breeders who went above-and-beyond to make a customer happy and where the customer is either parti...

8 weeks min is the usual recommendation, and some breeders may insist up to 12 weeks. If the breeder has gotten rid of all the other pups at 5-6 weeks and is just leaving the last pup alone in a box or barrel or something (which I've seen done), then it isn't going to get any stimulation or socializ...

That is what happend when you mess around with people who claims they breed for show. You should try buying puppy from a true hunter. This is shameful. I've seen dozens and dozens of posts over the years on this board about so-and-so getting a rotten deal on a beagle he bought from a hunter. Nobody...

I've heard people swear that switching foods (especially to a raw food diet) helps their dogs. I'm sure it doesn't work for every dog, but it might be worth a try. For certain types of seizures (hypoglycemic ones), just a little honey on the tongue when you see the signs of an oncoming seizure can d...

I've never seen fire ant bites react like that unless maybe a dog/person was allergic. Usually you just get some painful-and-itchy little bumps with some swelling, but the swelling usually isn't too bad (especially after the first few hours). Maybe certain dogs of yours are more sensitive to the bit...

Allergic reactions can happen to any chemical or med.

I've never used Biospot, always Frontline. But I've heard of dogs getting "burn"-type reactions and severe swelling due to Frontline, too.

Every coyote I've come across has run scared at a bark. I saw one a few hundred yards from my fence the other morn with 1 of my dogs in the yard, and I wasn't worried at all. But come across one that's protecting pups, or in a different part of the country, and it could be a different story. Portray...

I had one get stung the other week. He's been stung before, we think (had a hive active in the yard, and the side of his head swelled-up like a balloon...benedryl took care of it). This time, I saw it happen, and I had benedryl handy in my dog first-aid kid (which I just started carrying around a fe...

The wife buys ours, so I'm not sure about cost. But it beats the pants off of Heartgard for price. Dogs don't like the taste, but a squirt into the back of the mouth works, and if you put water in their food, they usually don't care/notice if you add it there. It will control some other worms, and m...

Epilepsy is considered to be passed genetically, but just because a dog has seizures doesn't mean it's genetic. Epilepsy can be caused by exposure to chemicals or poison, allergic reactions, head trauma, etc - and those can happen several years before the epilepsy actually shows itself. Seizures can...
