Re: Gone With the Wind
Hay, I was on the Rabbitdog web sight, for a long time, one day someone ask me what I Thought about the Black Creeks, I owned one, myself and he made a Field Champion, in the P.P. progressive Pack, division.. Then he had to run in the Champion Class, he never did get another First place? So when I ...

Re: Gone With the Wind
I'll have to agree with you Shady. I am probably in the same age bracket as you and Newt. Yes, it is getting harder and harder to find places to run dogs much less hunt and I said long ago that if one doesn't have their own property in some years they will have no place to hunt. From that point to t...

Female's heat cycle
I've got two females that are coming 9 years old that seem to NOT be coming into heat. One of them came in last year but I caught her late and if the other one did I sure never realized it. Normally that one is NO problem telling. Neither one of them have ever been bred so I'm wondering if they may ...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
I understand people love to debate issue's of any / every kind ... it's human nature ! But the bottom line here is that these registries have set guidelines , They are in black & white and have been in place for several years . Either abide by them or pay the price JMHO . Really seems to bother tho...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
The registry is to blame because they mandate a breed conformation standard with a zero tolerance on being over 15" but no standard method for assuring that standard is met. Of course if they had a standardized method of measuring such as setting them up on a bench like in a bench show that too woul...

HatterasBob, those two medicines were the go to ones in my younger years. I do not hear much about them any more but back then any cut or abrasion got the Merthiolate or Mercurochrome treatment.

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
The registry establishes THEIR rules and if THEIR rule is 13" to 15" then it matters NOT if taller hounds have a place in the hunting world because that registry has made the determination they have none in theirs. That then means one that wants, likes and has dogs over 15" has to go to a registry ...

Re: Summer feed
I beg to differ with the distinguish gentlemen above. I feed low protein food in the summer and high in the winter. Now, I'm going to stir the pot. An old time vet told me that high protein food year round will destroy the kidneys. It is often seen in working dogs, even had a beagle with bad kidney...

Re: best run to catch style. (STUD)
Good post PAB. I don't own a Garmin unit and don't have much of an idea of how fast or how far my dogs are running. I have spent many hours hunting hare in Maine,New Hampshire and Vermont with friends that use the Garmins.We all are running hounds that have backgrounds from Large Pack on Hare and M...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
Swampman . you hit the nail on the head, the breed standards exist for a reason, I also agree BUT even to a more stringent side. If the breed standard has a limit of 15" tall then I think they should NOT register anything over their limit that they have set as "the standard". if it does not meet th...

Re: New beagle here
Welcome to the board. There are some pretty knowledgeable people on this board with years of beagling experience. Many have years of hunting experience where it is actually what beagling is about. Trialing of them is usually secondary rather than the primary reason for them to have beagles. Some of ...

Re: The latest cross pups (TUG HILL SNOW HOUNDS}
I think you already have beat both of them daddy Rabbit as what you have been doing has clicked for a lifetime not just one cross! For some, making a cross that clicks, is a lucky guess or a mistake that happened to work but for those who make them for years, it isn't luck anymore, it's knowledge th...

Re: The latest cross pups (TUG HILL SNOW HOUNDS}
I had a very little half beagle, half fox terrier that I had purchased from a guy about 10 miles south of me. I had friends that had a dog from this guy t5hat I liked and they told me this guy made this cross many times and ALL the pups made rabbit dogs so I had to have one. The little female looked...
