My dogs noses seemed to have soured
I have a brace of gyps, litter mates. They're about 4 years old now. They took to hunting fairly quickly and with a lot less work than I thought it was going to take. The first couple of years they did great. One of them even retrieved a rabbit I'd winged and had run off into the marsh (we hunt in c...

Re: What makes a Beagle retrieve rabbits?
I have a brace of gyps, both from the same litter, 2 years old. I've only hunted them about 6 times or so, but this last hunt, I winged a rabbit. Well, I was pretty sure I winged it. We hunt the side of a levee that goes off into the marsh in south Louisiana. So here come the dogs a couple minutes b...

I'm not trying to call anyone a liar, I believe y'all if you say your dogs are eating each other up through a chain link fence. It's just that I can't see how two dogs could get a decent bite on each other through an ~2.5 inch hole found in chain link fencing. That's all I'm saying. Hell, if it's th...

This has been one of the more entertaining threads to read in a while. I've never had this problem, mainly because I have two females kept in the same run. I just can't imagine how two dogs could do much to each other by trying to fight thru a chain link fence. Sounds entertaining to watch. Must rea...

I've thought about that too...the grass roots. It's amazing what those little noses are capable of sniffing. Truly mind baffling. It's not moles. The holes they make are too shallow to be going after moles and I'd know if there were moles in the yard. I keep them penned most of the time and throw th...

Beagles rooting in the yard....WTH for?
I have a couple of 8 month old pups that root in the yard from time to time. They dig small shallow holes after sniffing the ground a while and then munch down something after they dig a bit. Can't seem to get them to stop this habit either. They leave little holes in the ground that you'd swear and...
