Are the Akc mid west style beagles still the best for hunting ?

I agree with shady grove . I expect a spring born pup to start over the summer & i expect killing a few off of them in there first season running them solo. I do consider that first gun season as (training).

In what conditions are you looking to run to catch in ?

Plenty of 13 & 15 in. Beagles running hare here in PA !

How far you willing to travel ?

I think akc is doing the right thing . They may lose entries or they might gain a bunch ! Could be a real benifit to the breed at this point.

Aint a whole lot of breeders, studs or bitches settin the woods on fire ! Most beagles these days seem to be a jumbled up bunch of bloodlines with different traits . Hard tellin what you gonna get.
