Buckhannon West Virginia
A friend and I were hunting near TJM on the Hall road yesterday 2-23-13 and we lost one of his dogs. There was another group af guys hunting across the river and his dogs pulled off and went toward them. With some help from the E-colors 2 of the 3 came back. We talked to the other guys but they hadn...

Re: .243 vs. 25-06
Stick with the 243 or the 7mm-08 for the kids. I shoot a 25-06(The ONLY-06) on deer and wouldn't trade it for any other caliber but the recoil may be too much for the kids. The 25-06 is similar in recoil to the 270, 280, and the 30-06.

Red branko female with ticking in Wv
Heli prop, lumberjack, Ali-baba, and maravic's blue are some of the dogs in her 3 generation pedigree. She runs about a 7 on speed with great line control and is quick out of the check. She will run with any pack. My only complaint with her is she lacks hunt until the rabbit is up. She is between 13...

Red tick Akc male in wv
I hate to sell him because he is exactly what I was looking for. He is a great looking open marked chocolate red tick with a big boxy head. He is about 14 inches tall and runs a quick medium. He did retrieve a few rabbits last season. He shows improvement every time out of the box. He just needs mor...

Breeding out the hunt
I have been around beagles my whole life. Growing up I never heard my father or any of his hunting buddies ever mention "papers" or bloodlines. They had hounds that wouldn't quit. I have owned several dogs with papers and several without and I have to say 4 out of the top 5 were "grade". Actually th...

How do they eat!
We have two weekends left here in Wv. I'm trying to talk a few buddies into heading to the mountains to run some snowshoe hare. If we get lucky and kill a few how do they taste compared to a cotton tail?

Re: decided I don't have snow dogs
In the snow you better have a pack that can gear down. Some guys may not admit to it but most of us have that dog that puts a little heat on the pack. When conditions are not good fill that dogs bowl up with food and leave him in the kennel. An experienced "snow" dog will look for that track in the ...

Are birds trash?
If your dogs runs a grouse or a pheasant do you consider it trash? I have a female that has bumped grouse in the past. I just considered it a bonus to a good day on the field. Earlier this year I took a trip to a friends camp in pennsylvania. My young male went crazy over the pheasants pa stocks in ...

What state has the best rabbit hunting? I have been wanting to make a week long trip for a while now. I have done some research online but it's hard to find any info on rabbit hunting. I am not asking you guys to give up your hot spots. Just some insite on a state with some good public land where I ...

Re: 2011-2012 Season for West Virginians
After last winter I never thought I would say it but we need some snow! The underbrush is too thick. I have had some great runs but shooting has been tough. I am running some young dogs and need to put some hair in their mouths!

Re: Rickets
I had a beagle pup with the rickets. I used a mixture of cod liver gel tabs and powdered calf starter. It will take a few weeks to notice a change but it wil work if it is in deed ricketts.

Heat cycles
I have a female that is going out of heat and I noticed that two of my younger females are starting to come in. I was just wondering if a dog's heat cycle will change if they are around other females in heat.
