Re: Can't unload your gun early nowadays....be safe...not sorry.
If you have to use your weapon in self defense and are a member of the association dedicated to gun owners, they will provide a lawyer free of charge. Not a bad deal for the price of membership if you think you'll need it. I would record my way out like the man said. Be safe.

A couple had two house dogs and one was quite old and came up to my one yr. olds twice and got right their face and growled at them and ran.. Both times my dogs got after their dog and the sec...

Re: Run to catch
From the dogs I've had over the 50 yrs. there have been four, 2 males and 2 females that routinely caught cottontails on the jump or during the run. I was a one dog hunter for many years and what a joy it is when they bring it back to you. Sounds like your dogs are in their prime and are well cared ...

Re: WHY LIE !!!
It's sadly what happens when you get burned a few times dealing with people that don't care about honor and it's normal for you to think it's going to happen again and you get mad and don't think because anger has got your mind in a vise grip. We've all been burned at one time or another and we get ...

From all the places you took him hunting/running it sounds like he was lucky to have you to. It's been three years and I still miss my last male and I have four in the kennel now. Hang on to the memories cause they are special dogs.

Re: Rebuilding my pack
Great to hear the blending sound of a pack of beagles. Good looking dogs. I'm doing the same thing with a 2.5 yr old mon and her three pups. They're getting better each time out and I really look forward watching them run 2-3 times per/wk. Good videos.

Re: Round and round she goes...
That last video was great. Those beagles have that large chest cavity for pulling in large amounts of air that makes them vary efficient runners. Someone has a little bit of disc jockey in them. I'll show that one to some of my clients, they'll enjoy it. When there're plenty of rabbits it sure helps...

Re: Round and round she goes...
I'm 62 and back when I was a kid I started with an off the chart black beagle that just joined in with another dog I had at the time. I'd say being wild was his ticket to greatness. Not being a breeder like the members hear I've just crossed bred to good dogs and stop the trash running early. An old...

Re: Round and round she goes...
A lot of money being made off this event. I've never used a starting pen but sure they're are advantages for starting pups. I purposely did not hurry these pups because I wanted to incorporate obedience training before and while in the field. It has worked out well, really easy to handle them with m...

Re: Round and round she goes...
My 'three pups are running with mom and the four of them really sound great and my health is good so that's reason enough to praise the Lord. Been a while since I played that song. Rain keeps the water holes full so I don't have to carry water. Will be at the farm outside Livingston Tn. for the ecli...

Re: Who likes working young dogs??
Had my three pups out yesterday with mom and first jump was three deer, all took off except mom and all got the juice and came right back. That felt great to stop it quick. Mom got a rabbit going and one pup [all 6 months] stayed with her most of the time but no sound. The other two wandered around ...

Re: gun dogs :vs: trial dogs---how about MEAT dogs? !
Great post Mr. Shady. I'm running one dog [Running Pregnant Bitch] 28 month old female medium to fast runner that holds the line well and can straighten out a cold track until its hot. She's been able to bring the rabbit around as many times as it takes to kill it and if you don't kill it, it's not ...

Re: How important is shooting rabbits for young dogs?
I did the same thing and your 100% correct, they will have tape worms. The question you got to ask is does it help a young dogs hunt better? I now save all the organ meat and rib cages and boil them like you said. No more worms.

Re: How important is shooting rabbits for young dogs?
I'm with Aubrey and I can add that letting a young dog run down a wounded rabbit and opening it up and giving him/her its first taste of blood is about as good as it gets. Genetics are the most important when it comes to skill level but the thrill of the kill and being in the moment never gets old. ...
