Kim, Most of the AKC clubs in our area seem to like a slower dog than what you run (I think I know what type hound you like, and they are good!). I run PP and some AKC SPO, and hav had my PP dogs picked up at a SPO trial and the "judge" told me my dog was >quote< "running too much of the front" >unq...

I agree w/ DRamey, we occasionally hunt with upwards of 10 to 15 dogs and are all experienced hunters and firearms handlers. We have never had a dog shot and it should never happen. We NEVER jump shoot and NEVER take questionable shots...even if it means coming home with the game bag empty....but th...

I do not prefer to see anyone who has not used vulgarity and shameless aggression banned from anything. I voted to let him stay but quickly and swiftly delete anything he posts that is meant to stir controversy unprovoked. Some may not want to hear this but I'm gonna say it anyhow: I was once filthy...

Redtick, While I agree that what registry a dog is involved with does not matter, DNA testing is NOT a foolproof method as you imply. I have done quite alot of reading on DNA testing in the manner most registries do it and it really is "inconclusive". Bev, chime in here and give all of us the low-do...

I guess the dog must be registered with whatever registry the person feeding it wants it to be! :D Seriously though, all my current hounds are AKC. I prefer my hounds to be AKC, mainly for the record keeping the AKC maintains. And I also like to take in an AKC SPO trial on occasion. I know the AKC i...

Problem with Kennel Boxes
Up until last winter I utilized 55 gal. plastic barrels for housing in my kennels. I really liked using the barrels for several reasons. 1) They are all-weather resistant, 2) waterproof, 3) will not rot. However I had a serious problem with using the barrels for housing. I took the barrels and cut o...

Both Bev and Brian recommended good boxes (The ones Bev described sounds good, the Dan's boxes are good too, I have seen those). If you are wanting to build your own box out of wood materials, go to this link for super plans: http://rabbithuntingonline.com/magazine/showarticle.php?id=5 I stopped by ...

Chuck, I also heard (down here in NC) at a lumber yard that "pressure treated" lumber was soon to be a thing of the past. Many of the lumber yards here are now advertising that they have the "New Non-Toxic Treated Lumber" in stock. I dunno, but I hope the non-toxic stuff will last as good as the old...
