Re: any body breeding any dogs out of the Old Jacks bloodline
I bred my female to AKC FC JW's Jake II about 4 years ago. Tim Tron from Scioto River Kennel (near Marion, OH) owned Jake at that time. Jake is line bred Satsuma on top. His sire is Satsuma Mack. On the bottom side he is Old Jack and Indian Hills Majer. I kept a male and female pup from the litter a...

Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
My vet warned me that as a result of low thyroid the dog is more vulnerable to weight gain. But, she wasn't heavy during the ordeal and her weight has stayed the same. She is about 25 - 30 pounds.

Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
If none of the above helps you may want the vet to test for low thyroid. All the vet did was draw some blood and they were able to make the determination while I waited.
A months supply of pills is less than $10.
My female had the exact same symptoms you are describing.
Good Luck!

Joey,
If he's is reluctant to eat you may want to try bread with jelly and butter (not peanut butter).

Re: satsuma breeding
Usually lemon and white.
Satsuma hounds are generally known to be fast, with good line control, tight in the check area, and explosive coming out.
Hunt until you make them quit, extra loud mouth, and with "big-buddy" type personalities.

I second what Johns said.
I bought the collars and bells.
Both are above average for quality and priced right!

Tim Tron (Marion, Ohio) owns Scioto River Kennels and has an exceptional stud that is linebred Satsuma/Indian Hills Majer.
The dog is AKC FC JW's Jake II and is black, brown, and white. Rare for Satsuma bred hound.

I was told a couple of years ago that Carhart quite making all their hunting clothes. Includes the coat you are describing and the excellent brush pants they used to make.
Don't know why...I always preferred their stuff to anything else.

If she still isn't eating enough try giving her pieces of buttered bread with a little jelly on it.

Have a 5 year-old female out of Snoopy. Very pleased with her.
She hunts hard and handles easily.
My brother has a male out Snoopy and will say the same things about his hound.

Re: hair coming off snout
My female beagle had bare spots on both of her sides.
Vet diagnosed it as a thyroid problem.
She is taking a pill twice a day and it seems to have helped.
