Re: Dingus/Gay
I can't speak for all, just one Gay bred male in my kennel. Gay bred almost excluseively on dam's side. He is from successful Western Pennsylvania stock, called Big Meadows, on the sire's side. He is my very best hunting dog, btw and has more hunt than any dog I have seen. With that being said, he m...

Re: Women
My wife both runs with me and hunts with me. She loves working the dogs, and often runs them on her own. We couldn't imagine a better hobby than beagling.

Re: what is everyone feeding?
I had been looking for a quality feed for some month uld pups and their mother. I have tried about every brand out there, except Taste of the Wild. It is just too rich for my blood. So i raed about the TSC version called 4Health. It is still a little salty, but the results were amazing. The 4Health ...

Re: Most proven stud dog on the ground as of today
From my own experience, I love what I have seen from a UKC dog. White River Tuff-E-Nuff is a Dale Prunty dog that has produced over 100 champions. I have a blue-tick male that is a grand pup to Tuff and he possesses a lot of his traits. My blue tick recently put a litter on the ground with 3 of 4 pu...

Re: salt
Someone on the board here offered a suggestion that I accepted. He suggested the use of the round tablets used in rabbit cages. Sold in cases of 25 for around $5 at Farm Bureau or any other local feed store.

UKC dog, White River Tuff Enough recently added his 100th FC pup. That is impressive! Dale Prunty is da man.

Re: bald eagle
This happened a couple of times to us. It was early this fall, and we were hunting an island at a 400 acre lake here in Pa. I have a very small female, and we also had several pups in the four to five month range at the time. The eagle creates enough excitement without hovering above the smaller dog...

Re: Rough running on powdery snow/ question
Thanks for the insight fellows, I appreciate it. It makes more sense now. After seeing that video Norwester, I'll stop bellyaching. That was amazing footage. It is also unthinkable to run in those temps. Those are impressive hounds. Thanks again.

Re: Rough running on powdery snow/ question
Sorry I wasn't a little quicker getting back to this post. Just to clue everyone in on a couple things. This dog is run ALOT. He runs at least five days a week, and sometimes six or seven. I am laid off now, and I run at least once a day and sometimes twice. He was groomed as a solo dog for about a ...

Rough running on powdery snow/ question
We have had some rough conditions on powdery snow here in SC Pennsylvania for a week or so. I have a question and a comment. First off, my 1 1/2 year old male is big-nosed, and has a tendency to mouth off once in a while. It is usually not an issue, especially in the fall, because he will mouth off ...

Joey, you are a helluva guy! I wish I were closer to you as well. Not just for the millions of rabbits in your area, either! You are a person I would be proud to know. Keep up the good work.

SW Pa beagling legend passes away. Please remember family i
Fred Will, who has been battling cancer, passed away on Christmas Eve. He has been a source of top-notch dogs, endless amounts of knowledge, and great company for a long time. Most people from southern Pa know of Fred and his contributions to the world of beagling. This man was in the woods (or fiel...

Re: Nose and pure power
I don't know your location, but Dusty Roads Hillbilly Rebel is a stud dog I am fond of after having a couple of his pups. He is a UKC dog (2010 WV points winner- UKC performance pack), and two of the pups I have from him were jumping and circling a rabbit alone by 4 1/2 months, and running at 3 mont...

Re: Pups first Rabbits
Congrats on the first of many! Nothing like hearing the young dogs baying for the first time... or killing bunnies off them for the first time. It does take a dog a little bit of getting used to as far as the snow goes. Experience is the best teacher. Take the dogs out no matter what. Windy, dry, ra...

Re: Friend Finder
Great idea! No one runs beagles around here too much anymore. I am in Pa near Bedford (Schellsburg area), 30 miles South of Altoona and Johnstown, 30 miles East of Somerset, and 30 miles North of Cumberland, Md. I run upper med. dogs that are young. They are 6 months old to a year and a half old and...
