Re: BOYS LETS SEE YOUR BLUETICK

Here's a male I use to own. Never was much of a hunter but was one of my first dogs when I was getting back into rabbit hunting.

Re: 2 More days & I can't wait...

That does have me worried. I want to be able to enjoy myself and fellowship at the Trade Day, but she is still on my mind. See ya on Friday evening. Oh, and by the way, you are still on the list if she has enough females. :)

2 More days & I can't wait...

My pride and joy only has 2 more days before she pops, and I think I am more nervous than she is. She had eight her first litter and raised them all, so I am hoping for more of the same. I can't find the picture of her first pregnancy, but to me she looks bigger than before. What do yall think of he...

Re: Anyone use cattle ear tags on there hounds!!

Another good way of attaching them to the collar is to cut the skinny part of the tag that would attach to the cow's ear off so that the tag is somewhat square. Then, make two slits on either end of the tag and slide your collar right thru. This is less bulky and I have never seen one come off like ...

Re: High scoring/low scoring

A good clean dog can and should win in ARHA. For example I have seen and judged several casts in which dog a is continually overunning the line and causing breakdowns. Dog B however comes right behind him and makes the turn or whatever and picks up the check. Dog A gets back on it and in it's compet...

Re: High scoring/low scoring

This is kind of catch 22 situation. A low score could be some great running or it could mean that the judge(s) couldn't keep up with the hounds to see who was actuall doing what. I have seen both. In fact, I judged a cast this past weekend, that I could not score the first 20 mins of the race becaus...

Re: Rabbit Feeders

If you click on the link at the bottom of my post to our website, you can see some pics of the feeders we use in our rabbit pen. Click on the tab for rabbit pen and scroll down to see them. We also have and old 3ft high trough feeder with a roof that we keep stocked with whole corn for the deer. As ...

Pup Training

IF this works, this is a quick clip of some young pups in our rabbit pen the other evening. Two of the dogs are about one and half years old and the other two are about 9 months old. This is a spot in our pen that allows us to get a pretty good view of most races. The rabbits usually cross in this a...

Re: truth be know

Ours are run usually 2 -3 times during the week in the evenings and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. With 15 dogs, we can generally swap dogs in and out as they are getting wore down. In most cases, we run 10 dogs when hunting but about 5 -6 during the week. This allows us to focus on individual do...

Re: Best Time of Year to Start Pups?

This is a very interesting and inforamative topic. We seem to have had the best success starting our pups right after season goes out in March. We generally keep about 15 running dogs, so if we try to start them in late summer or early fall, they end up sitting up for a while during rabbit season. T...

Re: I have a Question?

I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but another statement you made has me puzzled. Are you saying you saw or know of someone having to scratch a dog because they could not get someone to handle it on the cast? That is absolutely absurd!!! Before I got my judging license, there we...

Re: is it ok to breed the first heat

It doesn't affect all females the same way as posted above. I bred my female on her first heat cycle, but it was about 12 months when she came in. My intentions were based on the fact that at that age she was a really sound female. Also, the male was getting older and was an even better hound than h...
