Well, I know it's been a WHILE since I posted, but extenuating circumstances kept me away. Here's my take: Some dogs have issue with digesting nutrients and need a little extra help. Their pancreas doesn't work as well as some dogs and they are lacking the digestive enzymes that the pancreas manufac...

OK, I know this thread is a bit older, but thought I would put my spin on it. First of all, if you cut the rations too much, it will throw off the balance of nutrients and this could cause malnutrition. The dog will start to metabolize muscle to meet it's energy needs and the fat stores are the last...

The minimum recommended age is 12 weeks, but by law (guess some states may vary) they must be vaccinated by 16 weeks and again in one year. If you don't let that one year vaccine go overdue, then you can get the 3 year vaccine. While I do believe we are overvaccinating our pets, you can't afford to ...

Ken, Avon's Skin-so-soft bath oil (the kind that you have to dilute) works GREAT to keep biting insects off your dogs. It can be misted on them daily to prevent your dogs from being biten. It's really inexpensive too, it only takes a couple of ounces to make a large sprayer bottle, which lasts me a ...

Could be a thyroid or adreanal gland issue, but nutritional deficencies can also cause hairloss. What works for some dogs, doesn't necessarily work for another. The vet can run a thyroid panel and do a test for cushings sydrome (which normally affects older dogs) and if it's does turn out there are ...

A dog that overeats can get loose stool and a good way to clear this up is to take them OFF feed for 24 hours and give them some plain canned pumpkin or boiled and peeled sweet potato. This really WORKS! The stool will firm right upl. The fiber it provides allows for absorption in the large intestin...

I would be tempted to say she may have some thyroid issues (with the thinning hair), but can't be sure how to answer you with the bleeding issue. I'd really need to know a bit more about the problem. It may be Giardia, but it could just be stress-induced colitis. Tell me more about the hair problem....

JC, There are alot of studies that link nutrition to seizure activity. Some grains can trigger them and some recommend grain-free foods to prevent or lessen the chances of others. There is also some information on seizure activity with hormone imbalance, but I'm still researching this one. There's a...

Tony, I'm sorry to hear this, but a dog this age could very well recover enough to be able to resume alot of their normal activity. I have heard of a 4 year old Wimer that recovered FULLY. No lasting affects after the first couple of months. I think one thing that is to your Bell's advantage, is her...

Your dog may need her anal glands expressed! Take her to the vet or to a groomer if you don't know how to do this yourself.

Donnie, IMO, he could just use the safeguard OR the valbazen (one or the other), but there's no reason to really use both. The active ingredient in both products are so very similar, why use both? I think it's a bit of an overkill and a waste of money. I believe some get really carried away with the...

Joe, That's fantastic! Doesn't it make you feel good to see the ones that struggle do well :) Ya know, as far as what your boy is eating, I think I would find something for fiber and carbs, besides the Beneful :yuck: It has so much artifical JUNK (colors, preservatives, by-products, etc) in it, that...

I have seen dogs with strokes and this very well could be what has happened. I deal with a dog every day that is 14 years old (german shepard) that had a stroke about 6 months ago. She is still kickin' although she has a permanent head tilt and staggers like she is losing her balance most of the tim...

Just curious why your friend is using safe guard AND valbazen? Granted they are based with a different ingrediant (safeguard - Fenbendazole, Valbazen - albendazole) but they basically get the same things. It seems a bit like an over kill. The bloody mucous is typical of whip worm infection and I've ...

Navy OLF in Pocosin Wildlife Refuge

I posted this in the wrong section, sorry! This is really hitting home for me and my family. Although we don't live too close, we do not want them endangering this beautiful place or the animals that live there. I hope that all of you will help put a stop to this unspeakable act! http://audubonactio...
