Re: Where to retire?

Big W, have you considered RVing? Somewhere up North in the summer & down South for the winter. For the price of one or more non-resident licenses -- if the hunting isn't to your liking in one area, just try someplace else? We tried it in 2005 but, unless you have some land, you can't plant a garden...

Re: Where to retire?

Adirondackjoe, why not indeed! More I think about it, ...even my Catskill Mountain accent would fit in better than it would in New England. Over the years, I've spent a lot of time in the Adirondacks, hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping & running sled dogs. Also, each year, going to the NYS Trappers...

Re: Where to retire?

Big W, Kokajdo is a real nice area, sounds like you & your son are building some great memories! We used to live a little to the East of there, in the Lincoln/Lee area. Have family in Millinocket & in Pittsburg, NH. Both my wife & I were born & raised in the Catskills, used to belong to the New Scot...

Re: Where to retire?

Been reading this thread with great interest. I too have been trying to come up with a place to retire. The more Southerly states are out because we live in the Interior of Alaska (500 miles & a mountain range North of NY Hillbilly) & do not want to trade a two season climate with winter prevailing ...

Re: Super Comanche

Contender with 10" octagon barrel. Has been my primary hunting gun for the past 20 some odd years. Comparatively lightweight & carries nicely in a belt holster.
Oh, only have hare up here too.

Re: Sighting in a Comanche

Just remembered, I have a .410 pump shotgun that didn't/doesn't like Winchester shells. As an aside, this was back when .410's were loaded with 3/4 ounce of shot & fiber wads. Anyway, Remingtons shot to point of aim while the Winchesters impacted some 5 to 6 inches low at 20 some yards. Still, 2 fee...

Re: Sighting in a Comanche

Hello, Okay, 5 yards is 15 feet. Now, my math isn't too good but here goes... According to my construction calculator we have a run of 15 feet & a rise of 2 feet. That means a pitch of 7.59 degrees. (the rise of the axis of the barrel above horizontal?) The diagonal is 15 feet 1 9/16 inches. Now her...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving from Alaska

Welcome,
My brood & I moved from the Catskills to Fairbanks back in the '80's.
According to Wonderground today -- Fairbanks ~ 7 below, Soldotna ~ 20 above & Sangerville only 6 degrees warmer at 26 above...
Well anyway, again, welcome to Alaska!
