Re: Light Snow and dry dirt about the same
We don't get a lot of light Snow here, but it is dry, dry, dry. My dogs can do very well on dry dirt and today I ran them on fluffy Snow and they did good, I felt. Most of the time one dog was doing most of the running, each dog was takeing his turn. So I ask this, is a Snow dog better than a hound t...

Re: Starting in the snow
Starting a pup with snow on the ground is a great opportunity as you can see what the rabbit population is in any given area. Just put him in thick with rabbits enough and he should figure it out.

Re: snowing in south mississippi
Things could be worse ;) We've got about 6 or 7 inches on the ground and this morning the temp is a nippy -32 celcius which is about -26 F for you guys down south, and that is WITHOUT any sort of wind chill factored in (although I don't think there is much). That's even a little cool for us this tim...

Nice work placing in the top 10
Couldn't have been too bad going up north, I see there is still plenty of open water there.

Re: Video: How Important Do You Think Solo Time Is?
If Webster considers his hound a rabbit dog only if it can run in ANY conditions then he needs to bring it up this way to hunt before he attaches that label on him  Seriously though, I'm not at all concerned with titles or labels of any fashion. Mark, if a hound is only rabbit dog when it does ...

Re: Video: How Important Do You Think Solo Time Is?
So how do you know if they can run a rabbit if you don't solo them? Mark~ When the hare flies by me with a worried look on his face and my pack is breathing down his neck, I'm reasonably certain they are running him ;) I think it is important if you want a hunting dog it is not important if you wan...

Re: Video: How Important Do You Think Solo Time Is?
I pretty much agree with everthing Riverbottom had to say. I'm really not interested in a hound that needs specialized attention to be a productive member of the pack I run. I could care less if soloing the dog makes them a better all around individual as I very, very seldom run one hound. Even on t...

Re: What bloodline produces speed
Just out of curiosity, when talking speed do most of you mean like, how fast a dog can run if it was chasing a car down your drive or how fast it can run a rabbit/hare while staying on the line enough that they don't lose it? I think there is a difference between the two, wondering how many guys wil...

Hunting ban poll in Ireland
The Kilkenny People, a newspaper in Ireland is conducting a poll to decide the fate of fox hunting in Ireland which is one of the few places left in Europe where it's still legal to hunt with hounds. Take a minute to vote and help the cause guys. http://www.kilkennypeople.ie/letters-to-the-editor/Sh...

Re: So if I were looking for....
a dog that carried the traits of having a cold nose, good speed, no quit and just plain "get it done" no matter what the conditions are, where would I look first??? Who has the dog that throws these traits into a high percentage of it's offspring??? (Don't get me wrong I realize the female has ALOT...

Re: Airedale dogs
That would be the guy RiverBottom. ;) I don't believe Henry has the Airedales anymore or works any of the smaller terriers either, knees were shot the last time I corresponded with him and that was a few years ago, (he has or had a working Lakie from us) plus he was gettin on in age. But yep, used t...

Re: Airedale dogs
Sure there is. You wanna look for stuff that is Redline bred, down from Henry Johnson's old stuff. There's still plenty of guys who use them to supplement a hound pack for bears, yotes or whatever. Try this site and ask around for what you're looking for http://workingairedale.proboards78.com/index....
