Just because you don't see signs don't meen there not there. If your dog does not get under all the brush and snow you won't jump them. It's -1 here with about 16" of snow, plenty of hiding places. Watched my dogs go under piles for what seemed like 5 minutes and I'm saying common lets go. All of a ...

Farwest, your letting me down, the answer is simple " I personaly would never use a male unless he had a couple of good gunseasons over him, I would use a two year old if he was my idea of a good dog"

Thanks for the replys, I have my own thoughts on this, just wondered about everyone else. I also believe that that a dogs traits such as; hunt, desire, brains, etc. are in their genes. I also believe that those traits can be influenced through their environment and training. I don't believe that you...

trained or inherited traits

I seem to see a lot of debate on dogs traits; just curious on everyones opinion on what traits you would call inherited ( " its in their genes" ) and which traits you would call trained. Also which ones do you think enviroment has the biggest effect on?

I went out yesterday, tried to find someone who wanted to go with me, they all said "what! are you nuts, its raining". Well, T.C. your right, I won't melt so I loaded the dogs and headed out. Ran for 4 hours and from the time I let the dogs out to when I quit it was non-stop action. It was probably ...

I have a Golden that just went through this. The vet did just as Show Dog said. I tried just as Patch said to leave it alone, it just got bigger. I didnt want to drain it myself because I had no anti-biotics to give. I think the problem you will find is, this is caused by the dog shaking its head an...

How many is enough?

After watching some of the video clips that have been taken with large numbers of hounds running I have some questions. First, I mainly hunt by myself and have never been to a field trial so my experience with a large number of hounds is small. Second, although these clips are short, it appears that...

A septic for dogs can be constructed the same way as a home system, just dont need to be as big. It all depends on just how elaborate you want to get. The first thing you have to know is what type of soil you have. Clay soil will not drain very good, sand will, and bank gravel will. What I would sug...

Dogs scenting abilities

It seems that there is always a debate on trash running. Could there be a line that is more resistant than others? I did some research to see if this might hold true with some sort of documentation. First let me say, I read a lot of articles on how a dog smells scents. They are quite lengthy so I ju...

Blu Tick Beagler, welcome to the Lake Erie Snow Machine. Sometimes its pretty funny, we'll get a foot of snow and you can drive 30 minutes south and they have green grass. Can't wait to run tomorrow, now I'll be able to see those bunnies a little better.

Up here in Northeast Ohio you get to run on all three. The dogs do well on snow and frosty mornings, not too well on ice. Of course Im not real excited about running when its real icy. The worst I see my dogs do is on melting snow, kind of slushy. Thats just my observation of my dogs, Its interestin...

I live in North Kingsville, a few miles east of Ashtabula. We'll have to hook up when you get here, I can show you all kinds of good places to run. It,s been a great summer here and the rabbit populatuion is up. Dave
