I learned very quickly that just because your dog is making noise, it doesn't mean he's scoring. I remember a guy who commented every time he heard his dog "Yup, Ol' Blue got that check." When the scores were read Ol' Blue's only score was a -10. Never forgot that.

Re: Is it Time For 10 Second Checks in Little Pack?
Not all of us Ron. I enjoy just being there whether it's my dog or not. It's like guys who own dogs but let someone else do the training and conditioning or someone else bring them to the trial. What do they get out of it? I may not have the best dogs, but they make me proud when they do well and I ...

Re: Is it Time For 10 Second Checks in Little Pack?
I agree on the Garmin, not only to speed up the hunts but also in the case of a deer race. How far away is the dog if you have to walk 200 yards back to the truck to get your hand-held? PP allows units in the field and I don't think cheating is rampant there. If someone is going to cheat, they'll fi...

Re: Show Us Your Home-made Dog Trailers
JLW:
Your box looks just like mine. Do you have doors in the top of the run to get dogs out or do you have doors across the back? Are the box and the run separate and you just set them on your trailer and strap them down? How big is the trailer? Looks like a pretty nice unit.

Show Us Your Home-made Dog Trailers
I'm thinking about building a dog trailer. I have the frame and saw a lot of neat designs at Boonville. How big do most of you make your trailers? Do you prefer small utility-trailer type wheels or larger standard wheels? How many runs do you incorporate and how long and wide? Trailers are great whe...

Re: Soloing Revisited
Red can do that; sometimes it takes him longer than three minutes to get it up and in the case of brush piles the rabbit may never come out. He just needs to realize he has the track and ignore the other dogs in the cast. Thanks for your comments.

Re: Is it Time For 10 Second Checks in Little Pack?
Good post. Most judges I've seen like the dog to take the track out to earn a check.

From the little I know and hear, you have some of the best stock already.

Soloing Revisited
I have been soloing my three-year-old male for about a week. One of the judges at the World told me he seemed to have the track at a check but pulled back to the other dogs instead of taking it out. I'm hoping he will gain some confidence that he has the track no matter what the other dogs are doing...

Re: Is it Time For 10 Second Checks in Little Pack?
Chris83; I like what you said about giving the cast a full hour. That's how it should be. Not all judges do. At the World when asked, the judge said he might call a time out or he might not while someone looked for their dog. I didn't mean that I didn't care if the hound hunted with me, as judge, or...

Re: Is it Time For 10 Second Checks in Little Pack?
Just my two cents, which is worth just what you pay for it. I thought the 15 seconds was to give the judge time to catch up because LP dogs are generally faster. I'd be fine with a 10 second check. Lots of dogs pick it up at between 10 and 15 seconds. It would improve scores. If I am judging--someth...
