I'm lucky; I can walk out to the kennel and get one or five and be running. The down side is that the rabbits get pressured a lot. I need to find a couple of places close to home so I can solo in new places. But I think it is definitely making a difference.

Not to be picky, but you're better off making your own mix rather than buying pre-packaged. They want something to grow and show for your efforts so the mix several different seeds. Problem is seeds require different planting depth. You can mix wheat and peas or oats and peas and plant the 1-1/2" to...

Re: How much do you think it cost a year to raise a dog.
In most places, green fees are higher than trial entry fees--$25.00 is cheap for green fees. And a lot of golfers show up in Caddy's, but that's beside the point. Beagles can be as expensive to own and campaign as we can afford. My dogs go through a 40 # bag a week--maybe more on the winter. That's ...

Here in my corner of SW Michigan, they don't seem too bad. I seem to collect more than the dogs. I've only found one of two on each dog so far.

My food costs are around 45-50 cents per day. Heart worm meds add about 20-25 cents plus shots maybe another 10-15 cents. All totaled maybe 80-85 cents per day just to have them in the kennel.

Re: Opinion on bad scent day
Just came in from running and we got six or seven rabbits up. Most ran a pretty big circle; others ran a short distance and went to a brush pile. I almost stepped on a rabbit and we called the dogs in--they were all within about 20-30 feet of the jump. Not one of the four dogs could get a line. They...

I feed Diamond Naturals. Pro Plan has too much corn IMO. Had a Chessy trainer in Wisconsin tell me she tried several brands and no longer feeds Pro Plan.

Re: Building Your Own Trailer
Three runs sounds good, but I only have a two-door box, so it wold be hard. I'd also want a trailer with a five-foot deck minimum. Six feet would be better. I have a trailer that I think will work with a few modifications, but I'm still looking. By the time you get bigger tires, buy the flooring and...

Re: Show Us Your Home-made Dog Trailers
I have a 4 x 8 trailer I bought at an auction for $70.00 that I'm toying with. Another auction coming up in a couple of weeks so I may see what they have. I'd like to extend mine about two feet too so I could have six foot runs and have my box all inside the trailer. Thanks for posting yours.

Re: Show Us Your Home-made Dog Trailers
Thanks. Both look nice. I have a trailer and looking at another. We're planning to use 24" x 72" chain-link doors for the sides and divider and a chain link panel on the top. We just need to make doors for the end of the runs. Another problem in posting pictures might be they need to be resized to f...

I agree; get it tested. Most clovers seem to do well in clay. I don't have much experience with lespadeza.

I don't know why it is, but the interest is disproportional to the number of responses. 677 read this post and only two of us have responded. For me, that's the most frustrating part of this forum. Please help your fellow beaglers and post a picture if you have one.
