Re: Michigan lost a good one
This is an indication of how far out of the game Ive become! Its darn near the end of March and Jim passed in December. I have lost my very best friend. Short of Ed Delaney there isn't a houndsman that I am closer to. Jimmy is and was the best. Him and I became friends between 25 and 30 years ago, a...

Re: Too much nose or not enough brains?
I have never thought there was such a thing as too much nose. There are plenty of hounds that never learn how to use it. I love a cold trailer- some will hang themselves from time to time but when it counts they are a godsend! I compare extreme cold to extreme heat - it takes a hound with tools to d...

Ohiohntr, That was a near perfect explanation of probably the biggest benefit of a little solo time.

You dont ever solo so how do you know you dont have to run a pack? Thats an easy question which seems to have an elusive answer.

Re: Solo, The Amazing Cure
Budd, stick with your program it works for you and anyone else that is pack minded- if it aint broke dont fix it. Im not wrong in wanting to be able have a dog that can and will do it on its own with nothing to hide behind! I love the clips you post and have tried more than once to get the same resu...

Re: Solo, The Amazing Cure
Running the same pack of dogs day in and day out doesnt tell me all that much honestly, the dogs conform or "slot up" if you will and what I have seen personally is the same dogs jump, the same dogs lead on the drive, the same dogs pick the checks, etc. My never answered question is the dog that get...

Re: Solo, The Amazing Cure
These posts rely on the "safety in numbers" analogy - the more dogs down the better the odds are that they will be able to run. Im glad it works for you guys Im curious as to what each dog is capable of and cant get over that train of thought. Budd, your lead dogs are 2 and 3 years old have never be...

Re: Feedback on Snow Run Boone and Muskie Lake Eli?? Thanks!
I am best buddies with Jim Davis and was fortuante enough to spend many hours running with and hunting over Eli and to date he is the best all around dog I have ever seen run- period. His fortay was running when most other dogs couldnt he was simply amazing. I have based everything I do breeding wis...

Re: Solo, The Amazing Cure
Im not sure its a cure all but it does allow me to see what a dog does and doesnt have. The pack is a beautiful thing for dogs that have to have help running a rabbit,or require constant support in doing so. If all you guys that laugh at soloing run 6,8,10 dogs at a time and never look at a dog as a...

Re: U.P. Hare hunt
Its really not that sporting to shoot a bunch of white hare on bare ground, Too me any way. But, I understand it makes you and your dogs look good in all the pictures, and that stuff is important (to some people).

Re: Breeding for NOSE POWER
I like to think that I breed for nose power. I dont have a master plan much beyond "the best to the best" I do loosely line breed a handful of what I consider old blood lines and in all honesty I feel I have much better results getting what I want (keep in mind I said what I want) than by following ...

Re: Remember when this board
Put as simply as it can be- its my opinion- formed by my own "hand" so to speak!, and its right and yours is wrong- unless its in total agreement with mine! Whats left to argue about?
