Re: Breeding question???
There is no way to say one way or the other. A DNA test afterward would answer. You may have one sire of all or some of the pups with one sire and others with a different sire. Whether they hooked or not, you do not KNOW without DNA.

Re: The Need to Cull
Everyone posting here has to be making the assumption that THEY are the ones who know what should be a cull and what should not. Also assuming they know what should be done once someone decides a dog is not worthy of being a hunting dog. Who are you all to make those decisions for someone else? The ...

Re: The Need to Cull
First, I want to clarify my definition of culling. Dogs that I consider as not capable of reaching my standards for a working dog are culls and I place them in pet homes with an agreement not to breed. Now, to the point. I don't see how someone charging less for what you consider less quality hounds...

It's AMAZING that they do everything they do while we keep trying to help them, fix them and make them better. How they overcome that and still do all the other AMAZING things is beyond me.

Re: The trainer or the dog?
How the dog handles is in exact relation to how the trainer trains. We aren't talking about hunt or running rabbits, but just the handling then it is 100% the handler.

Re: the terms strike and jump
These are Field Trial terms. To a hunter they should be one in the same as far as their dogs are concerned. To me, a jump dog is one that has a knack for being the first and most often to start the run. If the rabbits are sitting, they are the ones to get them moving. If the rabbits are moving, they...

Re: Crooked legs. Did I breed it into my dogs?
If culling only the ones with visible defect fixes the problem, Then I am good to go right. If I hadn't post a picture of Josh, you would never known that them dogs was sired by a crooked leg dog. Until we can look at a dog and see the genes we have to use better methods and many people do. There a...

Re: Crooked legs. Did I breed it into my dogs?
If Doube D's Joshua is a carrier, so is Double D's Litt Man Bo Hanky as they are full brothers. That's why you can't cull part of a litter of pups and better the breed as some say. You would have to do away with all the pups and the parents or one parent. My understanding (which is admittedly limit...

Re: Crooked legs. Did I breed it into my dogs?
Here's a case where the wording can have multiple meanings and so the answers can be different and right. "Did I breed it into my dogs?" Did you add a gene into your gene pool that will cause crooked legs? Yes and No. As a recessive gene it could result in crooked legs/or not, depending on future br...

I bet your grand parents weren't linebred or inbred and so would not be a good comparison to dogs, who are, no matter how many pups they had.

Re: Wish I could go back in time and have my dog back
I would suggest you solo hunt this male for his training. Bring a buddy with you. When you shoot the rabbit, start calling your dog to you. If the dog doesn't come to you like he should everytime you call him then bump him with the TT. Get him to you and head off hunting in another direction. Let yo...

Well, sometimes you don't need to magnify something to be sure you don't want it locked in. If you need it magnified to see it, you may just continue to overlook it as you have all along.

Re: Rabbit hunting 10-24-2010
Why was it that we only saw your dogs laying around but we could hear alot of someone elses dogs off in the background running the heck out of some rabbits? Seems you should have gone over and hunted with them other dogs that were making all that noise.   Looks like you had some good...
