Re: UKC/ARHA GR-RCH Hill's Shake Rag Ozzie RIP
I got to hunt with Ozzie, Clem, Spot & Dingus this past hunting season. The weather was not great but the dogs were. At old age and very little hearing Ole Ozzie still hunted as hard if not harder than most young dogs in their prime today. My thoughts are with you Bev & Jim. I remember 2 years ago b...

Re: Not enough nose???
Davisfarms is speaking from experience......maybe you should just listed to what he has to say......... ;) I shot my first rabbit in 1949 and I have hunted with hounds in all kinds of conditions in several different states and Canada since that day, in good and bad conditions. So yes, I have learne...

Re: Not enough nose???
Laneline, you went so far as to point out the difference between Bloodhounds and others. Obviously this was developed thru selective breeding. Why would you believe such a superior difference could not exist with a Beagle thru selective breeding? You're contradicting yourself. I don’t understand wh...

Re: Not enough nose???
I really believe, there are only two real reasons why dogs do not run in certain conditions: 1- They don’t know how. 2- They don’t want to. The bad part is, some are unable to learn how and some will never desire to run in certain conditions. But they all have been born with the ability to do it. J...

Hunting with Laneline & Ozzie, Spot, Clem And Dingus
Every year when I go east to visit family I have been looking up Jim Lane and going hunting with him. This year I met up with him and I got one word for you, COLD! It was about 7 degrees and the wind was going about 15 mph. That brought it down to about -5. But to these old bones it felt like about ...

Re: One hour conversation!?
Tom Dornin, Frank Reese, Rev John Parks, John Toy, Elmer Gray, “Willet” …there are so many great ones that simply “know or knew dogs”. I know most of who I mention is now gone, but a couple beaglers that I have talked to and have got to know in the last few years are Larry Perry in WV and Jim Lane i...

Re: Looking for Stud that throws extreme hunt in pups
Laneline hands down! I would say go run with the dogs yourself to really see. I am only saying this because I have seen their dogs first hand. In a trial you only get in “most cases” about an hour in a cast and only 30 to 35 minutes of running time. You can’t really see the real dog in that much tim...

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question
I would have to say the one thing I have witnessed after 16 years of only owning Dingus bred hounds is that they have hunt, grit, and determination. Being fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to breed to dogs straight out of Dingus (Big shot & Pete) and continue the line by breeding to FC C...

I enjoy this site. And I don’t speak up much, but I would like for some of you to listen and think about what I am about to write. This September 15th I will be 69 years old. I started helping out with Beagles and Coon Hounds with training and handling in trials when I was 15 years old “1955”. I hav...

Re: Who Learns Quicker Males Or Females
In the last 45 years I have always had my males to start first. But once the females did start, they progressed faster and would pass up their male littermates, but in the end it all equals out and the best dog is the best dog. I have also had a much greater higher percentage of females being better...

Wow, I liked that. It's hard to beat the man in black. I was fine with just a couple hounds, after watching that, it makes me want to go get about 5 more good ones. Cash and dogs like that will give you the fever!

Re: patch hounds
I have hunted with a few patch over the years and I would say that those that are line bred as much as possible and kept as much to the original “as much as all these years would permit”, hard hitting with good foot is a good description of them. I do have a question for all those patch owners. I kn...

Re: improving running areas any Ideas?
I agree that cover and food are the two greatest things you can provide to keep a strong rabbit population. Hawks and Owls are a rabbit’s biggest nightmare and I also agree with the “cat” theory, unless they are a pet and full time kept in the house, there is only one “good” kind of outdoor cat… bec...

Re: Anyone have experiece cutting a male?
I have a male that I am not interested in breeding to....not now, not down the road. This male has a quirky personality, can be aggresive at times towards other males in the dog box, kennel, etc. and is cautious around new people and dogs. He is a one man dog. He is not a part of my "A" pack but I ...
