Re: Video: What Do We Learn About A Dog When We Solo?
Most important thing you learn is can the dog run a rabbit by himself. Does the dog have patience on tough days, also known as determination. One thing you'll learn also, is does the dog hunt. Sense of direction, looked good to me. Now I can't tell you from 5 min of video if I like the dog, but I wo...

Rabbit Hunting in Michigan
I am just curious to hear from some of you rabbit hunters in Michigan. This time of year I'm nervous about going out to state land and gunning with the beagles, with all the bow hunters out for deer season. Fortunately I have private land to rabbit hunt, however my brother in law would absolutely ki...

Re: question about ivermecton?
I've heard the same rumors, about problems to the kidneys, but my vet said it was okay to use. But I appreciate the guys saying they only use 1/10cc period or even a little less. I run little dogs that around 20 to 22 lbs and have always given the 1/10cc per ten pounds. I'll probably start giving th...

Re: when to solo ???
Depending on your time situation, I would try to solo the dog as much as possible, at least until the dog is able to circle his or her own rabbit. It also depends on what you are bracing the pup up with. If you have a fast or even medium speed dog that can flat out run a rabbit, then your pup, in my...

Re: ? about solo time
try a sight chase, never had to do this with an older dog, but do it with unstarted pups, might click in her head or during hunting season, if she runs one a little, harvest one in front of her. Of course if she kicks butt in a pack then I guess you may beable to live with her not wanting to solo.

Re: Two couple pack trials
Pen rabbits are alot harder to run, they get chased everyday, they do more sitting, doubles and v's, they also seem to hole up much quicker. I'm pretty fortunate I have two pens I can run in and the wild right across the street from me, not nearly as many checks out in the wild. Also hunt alot on st...

Re: Two couple pack trials
Sounds pretty obvious, the pack that circled the rabbit three times would be the winning pack. The main thing we need to remeber is the clock is only 50% of the score. I believe in your first example the pack who had no breakdowns ran 100 yards in 10 minuets, well that is not what any gundog judge w...

Re: Two couple pack trials
Well if the slow pack is that slow, would mean the hounds have no competitive spirit, which means if judged correctly the hounds as individual hounds would get low scores. 50 percent of the clock enters into the scoring equation not 100 percent. Now if conditions call for it, dogs may have to slow d...

Re: Two couple pack trials
Just from reading in Hounds and Hunting and the rule book on them the two couple pack trials seems like a great idea and fun time. OUr club up here in Michigan has had a few fun trials and there just isn't much interest. I could be wrong but I don't think any of the other AKC clubs in Michigan holds...

Re: When do you stop using a kennel or dog name..?????????????
You were told that if you tell the judge that hey my pup or dog here is out of Otis or Branko or whatever that it will help you get better marks. Wow I gotta find that trial or judges so I can mention that to them so my dog will do great,, even it skirts, pops off in check, don't hunt, leaves the ch...
