Re: Underground Fences
I still like the under ground fence since I last posted on them 6 months ago. They are a great option for a fraction of the money as an above ground. I have over 500' of wire run. I have not had any problems yet but one thing about them is they will keep your dog in but you can't keep other things o...

Re: invisible fence
I'm another one that loves the system. My hound has run a rabbit before and stopped right at the line. She carries on just like if a rabbit went thru a farm fence that she can't get thru. Proper training is everything. Trained mine at 3 months with the invisible fence and believe me she knows her bo...

Ticks
I found a baby tick on my dog after hunting Sunday. I think this is the earliest I've ever found one. I now you guys down south probably have them all year but seems kind of early around here. Anybody else finding them yet? Had about 16" snow melt in 2 days last weekend so maybe they think it's spri...

Re: Hunt - hare dogs vs cottontail dogs
I agree with Joeyman. I think the big thing also is the size of the properties. I have to hunt and run on small tracts of land unless I'm on state land and if my dog is not hunting where I tell it to go then it would be going on land I don't have permission to be on. Now if the dog ran a rabbit and ...

Re: tell me why
Ask Al Gore. It's the global warming.
We got a foot of snow here in central Ind in the last 24 hrs. It's going to be harder for my little 11.5" female but it's better than having 2 feet. I wish we had some global warming and soon.

Re: how cold
I agree with Flash. You'll never know if you stay inside. I have had some awful good days rabbit hunting when its been single digit temps and -0 wind chills. I don't think they'll come inside to you so throw on your warmest clothes and go get them.

Re: Training with a wild (dead) rabbit!!!!
I used a road kill in the backyard and it worked great. First time out 2 weeks ago my little female pup jumped her own rabbit and the deal was sealed. she ran that rabbit and openned right up. I was worried that i didn't have time to get her in a starting pen but not anymore.

Re: pup collar training?
This something we could go back and forth on for along time. All I know is when I train her praise is always used when she obeys and when she's out running around and I hit the tone signal she comes running, not with her tail between her legs but happy as always. She knowns that that tone means "I b...

Re: pup collar training?
I don't feel like I've done anything mean to my pup. There is no differnce in the training collar verses the invisible fence. Puppies at that age are most receptive to learning. I would never do anything ever, I felt was cruel to an animal. IMO, a 3-4 month old dog is the same as a 2 year old kid. W...

Re: pup collar training?
My pup is a little over 4 month and she also runs flat out to me when I tone her. It only took about 3 days and about 6 nicks on #1 and she learned. I first got her coming to me in the house before i moved it outside due to all the distractions outdoors. Keep working with that pup and you"ll be fine...

Re: Memorial Day Thanks
Just read Oakhill's post and it got me thinking. I love this sport. I love my/our freedoms we have even though it seems THEY are trying to take it away from us piece by piece every day. New gun laws, animal rights folks, etc. I'll bite my tongue and refrain from refering to them the way I'd like to...

Re: New Rocketman Pup
what did you think when you went in his kennel and saw every female he has bred to the same male and some of the females only have one season of hunting on them ? alot of people are willing to answer all your questions and make it sound real good if you are buying a pup off of them. From what I saw...

New Rocketman Pup
I'm still new to this site and have not posted much but felt like I should post this. After spending several months looking at different beagle forums and doing some research to locate a breeder, I got in contact with Mr. James Heasley and his Heasley Keystone Kennels. After reading several posts on...
