Re: double gun shooters what chokes you use?
I have been using an over/under for several years. In the early part of the season when there is more brush, I use a cylinder and an improved cylinder choke. With this combination I can take game as close as twenty five feet and as far away as 40 to 45 yards. Later in the year when there is less bru...

Re: How would you handle it
Big Dog Most of us who have gone through this can feel empathy toward your plight. They mean so much to us, that we just absolutely hate to see them go. But, in the end, since they mean so much to us, we will do the right thing, and have the vet put them down. Just be sure to be there and hold him w...

Re: Answer me this
I am an auditor for a major Federal Agency. I was raised around beagles. My father was heavily into beagles, and was a member of the Eastern Missouri Beagle club out of St. Louis. During the 50’s and 60’s we had, on average 7 beagles. He had field champions out of the Yellow Creek bloodline which in...

Re: New ARHA/NKC High Point of the Year (HOY) is in effect
It just doesn’t seem like things change over time!!!. I remember when my father was heavily into field trials, and his pursuit to attain Field Champion status for his dogs during the 1950’s and 1960’s in the St. Louis area. He as well as the other beaglers complained about favoritism by the judges, ...

Re: Late-Season Rabbits: Tactics For Tough Hunts
The magazine article and the responses are all good advice, but there was no mention of an important consideration when hunting rabbits in cold, and particularly windy days. In these types of conditions, when brush piles are not available, I have found that rabbits will tend to seek shelter in ditch...

Re: Tracking collars
Thanks fcr the responses. I have tried the bells on the collars, but due to too much shooting without hearing protection, I can't hear the higher tone of the bells anymore.
I will look into buying a tracking system.
Thanks again.

Tracking collars
I had something happen to me that is a first in the 45 years that I have been hunting rabbits with beagles. I have one beagle that I raised from a pup, and started without the aid of other dogs, running pens, pet rabbits and other aids. Duke is now 5 ½ years old. While he is not a field trial qualit...

Re: Interesting Weekend Hunt
As you may know, the females start to hole up during the day beginnning around the 1st. of the year in Missouri. Here in Illinois, the females are in the holes by the second week of December. The reason that you are seeing the rabbit pellets and not finding the rabbits during the day is because the ...
